Buhari has has accepted a southern successor for presidency for APC in 2023.
President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted power shift to the southern part of the country in 2023 after northern governor of the party insisted they will only back a southern successor.
Following the development the president caved in to their demand.
Buhari accepted the demand of the governors at a dinner with the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirants in attendance. Abuja on Saturday, June 4, 2022.
He endorsed the decision of the Northern governors elected on the platform of APC, who had asked the president to pick a southerner as his successor as a fundamental decision for their support in 2023.
The decision by the governors was taken on Saturday after a meeting and a press statement was released afterwards.
They attributed their position on the ground of national interest and appealed to northern aspirants contesting for the APC presidential ticket to withdraw from the race.
Who will succeed President Buhari has been a top-burning issue in the party for months now, leading to indirect attacks and counter accusations by high ranking members of the party. The decision of the Northern governor will no doubt cool down some nerves.
