Nigerians question INEC's credibility as Commission struggles to upload results on IReV after 7 days

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is still battling to upload results on IReV of the just concluded presidential election, 7 days after the exercise, raising question of its credibility.

The upload of results across the country of the 2023 presidential election declared by INEC as favourable to the All Progressive Congress‘ candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has come under scrutiny, as the issues of validity and credibility sets in.

Despite the widely reported irregularities and violence that marred the exercise across the country, coupled with the malfunctioning of the BVAS, the electoral umpire went ahead to declare the winner.

The Commission’s refusal to transmit the results from the polling units across the country ‘real time’ contravenes its own guidelines and puts question mark on the wholesomeness of the exercise, suggesting abuse of its powers and lack of credibility. More so that it went ahead to announce the results despite protests from the opposition parties.

From findings, INEC has managed to successfully upload 159,509 results from 176, 846 polling units as at March 4, 2023.

The development is coming seven days after Nigerians went to the poll to vote for their president.

Although the electronic transmission was still ongoing as of the time of this report, the figure already uploaded represents 90% of results from all the polling units across the country.

It was on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the winner of the election.

The final results INEC declared was objected by the main opposition parties who called for the results to be suspended over alleged manipulation.

The opposition parties: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) accused the Commission of deliberately manipulating the election process to favour the All Progressive Congress candidate by dumping its own guideline, which states that results must be uploaded on the IReV portal real time, before they’re are announced at the collation centre, this INEC did not do.

INEC‘s continue uploading of the results way after the election raises dust as to whether the results the Commission is currently transmitting reflects the actual results of the presidential exercise.

However, the two major opposition had announced their readiness to challenge the results in court, but yesterday, the Peoples Democratic Party, who had joined in the suit against INEC on the matter in the Supreme Court, announced their withdrawal.

Whilst opposition kicks, the All progressive Congress termed the presidential election as the most freest and fairest election in the history of Nigeria
