EFCC: Ortom justifies purpose of visit to anti-graft agency

Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has clarified the purpose of his visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as honouring a mere invitation by the anti-graft agency.

In an attempt to dispel rumors of his arrest or detention by the anti-graft agency, Ortom clarified that his visit was in response to the commission’s invitation and that he had no choice but to voluntarily accept the invitation.

In a statement by Terver Akase, the Media Aide to Samuel Ortom, he said that his principal as a law abiding citizen needed to visit the agency considering an invitation and the need for accountability.

He said the former governors was not under any pressure of apprehension or exercise to avert future concerns whatsoever but willingly visited the EFCC on matters relating to his 8 years stewardship in Benue State

Akase’s official statement reads: “Contrary to insinuations in some sections of the media, the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, today visited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to honor the invitation of the commission. Chief Ortom was neither arrested nor detained at the EFCC Zonal Headquarters in Makurdi.”

Ortom, has repeatedly expressed his transparency and asserted that he has nothing to hide regarding his tenure as the Governor of Benue State.

Terver Akase, the Media Aide to the former Governor, concluded the statement, reaffirming Ortom’s commitment to transparency and cooperation. The clarification regarding his visit to the EFCC aims to put an end to the speculations circulating in the media.
