“Racism in Canada made me Considered bleaching my skin” – Actress Linda Osifo

Nollywood actress and superstar Linda Osifo has revealed that she contemplated bleaching her skin while living in Canada due to racism.

In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo ( a Nigerian TV host, filmmaker and media entrepreneur), the Nollywood icon said that she was often bullied by her classmates when she was in school in Canada because of the colour of her skin.

The actress said that the racism she faced in school made her feel stigmatized and insecure about her skin color and that she started to consider bleaching her skin to make herself more acceptable.

“I eventually decided not to bleach my skin the moment I realized how important it is to love and accept yourself irrespective of your skin colour.”

In the course of the interview Jideonwo asked her if she was ever referred to as or called a monkey growing up. The actress responded in affirmation.

“Yeah. It happens absolutely. And it happens from your shade too, you know. So, that’s why it’s even more of a weird thing” she said.

She went further to say that she thinks bully comes from within because if somebody else says it, you may not care but if somebody who is around you and you see every day says it, it hurts more.

According to the beauty goddess, moving back to Nigeria has actually helped her realize herself and she is happy she did.

Linda Osifo is a Nigerian actress and television host, born on the 27th of July, 1991. She was first runner-up Miss Nigeria Entertainment Canada 2011 and 2nd runner-up Miss AfriCanada 2011 beauty pageant.
