To effectively address underemployment and shortage of healthcare services in the health sector, stakeholders and professionals have called for the efficiency of technology in enhancing the sector.
Pharm Feyi Adeyemand and founder ProLocum, stated that poor infrastructure and welfare for caregivers were responsible for the dwindling interest and reluctance of caregivers to relocate to underserved communities, where they are most needed.
Speaking during the virtual launch of ProLocum platform over the weekend, he explained that the initiative aims at bridging the gaps in healthcare staffing, by providing healthcare facilities with options in selecting healthcare professionals suitable for the intended position.
Adeyemi stated that the platform connects healthcare providers with professionals, and does not permit doctor-to-patient recommendations, adding that it offers work flexibility.
His words: “We are the connectors between healthcare providers and professionals. We specialise in helping Nigerian healthcare professionals find additional shifts based on their profession and availability”.
“An intelligent match-maker, which swiftly matches healthcare professionals with positions that align with their qualifications and preferences, offers professionals with a robust calendar management system, offering control and flexibility over their schedules, and fostering transparent communications between healthcare professionals and facilities.”
He further explained that each signee undergoes a professional background vetting and a performance review for the Prolocum from the facilities.
The Managing Director and CEO of Primeah Pharmacy, Dr. Bunmi Olugbeja, added that the initiative effectively reduces fixed costs and offers payments based on work hours.
“As a business owner, this platform provides us with a bigger pool of people, who will be available to work for us. This is very crucial because the pool of staff available for work is becoming smaller.”
She also stated that there will be no need to worry about the payment pattern or strategy as payment negotiation will be based on work hours, as against full time employees.
