The boxing world would experience a showdown as former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is set to take on Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk, in a N54billion rematch bout.

After his defeat by the Ukrainian, Joshua have had his eyes on the second fight. The rematch with Oleksandr Usyk is expected to earn for Joshua £100m, should everything go as planned.

The buck of the rematch sponsorship funds is coming from the Saudi Monarchy – who is ready to spend around $120m for the hosting rights of the fight. The amount is almost twice what the Kingdom parted with for the just concluded Saudi grand Prix.

The concerns of global boxing bodies is the Kingdom’s security and rights abuse – and all of these could affect the rematch. However, Joshua’s return to Saudi Arabia, where he defeated Andy Ruiz, might not be a super excitement for him.

As reported by MSN.com, the Nigerian born heavyweight champion, could earn upwards of £100 million or ₦54 billion in the fight, compared to what he got in his fight with Ruiz in 2019.

With Usyk holding a remarkable six championship belts, the coming rematch would earn him more than Joshua.

It was in September 2021 that Anthony Joshua lost his WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO titles to Usyk.

The activation of a rematch clause in their fight contract set the ball rolling for a second meet, where Joshua is seen by most boxing experts as the likely winner in the rematch.

If he wins, it’s expected to get back his titles, as June 25 is proposed as the showdown date.
