The Minister of the FCT, Mr Wike has indicated the readiness of his administration to ban the operations of unpainted taxis and buses from operating in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as incidence of “one chance” are on the rise on a daily basis.

According to the Minister, only vehicles that are painted in the colours of the FCT, and duly registered by the FCTA, will be allowed to ply the routes within the FCT, in order to bring to an eventual halt, the menace of ‘one chance’ which has become a nightmare to the people of the FCT.

This was revealed by the Minister on Monday while addressing journalists in the city. According to him, the move was for the interest of the people of the FCT who have become constant victims to the nefarious operators of the ‘one chance’ criminal acts.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that ‘once chance’ involves criminals posing as taxi drivers to rob, assault, and sometimes murder their passengers.

The Minister informed that as much as efforts have been put in place to tackle the menace, stiffer measures must be employed to ensure that a total curb is achieved eventually. In his words:

“We are not going to allow vehicles that are not painted with FCT colour and registered by the FCTA to ply commercially in the territory.

“That way, you know the driver is certified by the FCT and the buses and the taxes were also approved by the FCT.

“When this is done, you as the passenger will not take the risk of going to enter any vehicle that you don’t even know,” he said.

Mr Wike also added, that even the drivers of Uber and Bolt taxis must also be registered to identify clearly who they are.
