The Supreme Court, sitting in Abuja has upheld the election of Governor Simi Fubara, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.

The Candidate of the All Progressive Congress,APC, Mr. Tonye Cole, had challenged the result of the governorship election outcome held on March 18, 2023, but Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun who led a five member panel, had Tonye Cole’s appeal dismissed as lacking merit.

Cole who filed for Simi Fubara to be removed as the Governor of Rivers state, was unable to ascertain to what extent, the election did not comply with provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

Cole further revealed that the election consisted of malpractices which were not in line with the Electoral Act, as well as the non resignation of Fubara’s previous position as demanded by the law before every election.

Consequently, a separate appeal against Fubara had been dismissed by the Supreme Court earlier. It was filed by the candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Innocent Kere.
