A civil society organization, Osun Concerned Citizens, has accused the Osun State House of Assembly of ignoring petitions submitted to it on various issues affecting the state.

The group’s chairman, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi, made the accusation at a press conference in Osogbo, the state capital, on Wednesday.

Alimi said the assembly had failed to act on several petitions submitted to it, including those on corruption, abuse of office, and poor governance.

“We have submitted several petitions to the assembly, but they have been ignored. This shows that the assembly is not committed to holding the executive accountable,” Alimi said.

He listed some of the ignored petitions to include one on the alleged embezzlement of N1.6 billion by the state government, another on the poor condition of roads in the state, and one on the alleged abuse of office by a top government official.

Alimi called on the assembly to take its oversight functions seriously and investigate the petitions.

“The assembly should not be a rubber stamp to the executive. It should perform its duties without fear or favor,” he said.

The Osun State House of Assembly has yet to respond to the allegations.
