Minister of Defense, Bello Matawalle, has revealed why northerners dominate President Bola Tinubu’s security team. Speaking at a press conference in Gusau, Matawalle attributed the dominance to the region’s “patriotism and loyalty”.
Matawalle stated, “The north has always been known for its patriotism and loyalty to the country. It’s no surprise that northerners are leading the security team, as they are willing to sacrifice everything for the nation’s unity and progress.”
He emphasized that the security team’s composition reflects the region’s commitment to protecting the country. Matawalle also praised Tinubu for recognizing the north’s value and capabilities.
The governor’s comments come amidst concerns about regional imbalance in the security team’s composition. However, Matawalle’s explanation highlights the north’s dedication to national security and its willingness to serve the country.

Senator Shehu Sani, a prominent political analyst, noted, “While patriotism and loyalty are essential, it’s crucial to ensure regional balance and inclusivity in critical sectors like security.”
However, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf, a northern elder statesman, supported Matawalle’s stance, saying, “The north has always been the backbone of Nigeria’s security. It’s only fitting that they lead the charge.”
