British Airways has launched a new uniform for its staff – its first clothing revamp in two decades, includes new hijab option as part of a complete relaunch of its staff clothing in 2023.

The new change also features a bespoke jumpsuit as well as tunic options.

The airline’s new uniform designed by British Savile Row tailor Ozwald Boateng was unveiled last week, ushering in its first clothing revamp in two decades.

The outfit, which carries a greater diversity of options, including a bespoke modern jumpsuit and a tunic and hijab option is termed “an airline first”.

According to a statement release on the company’s website by its Chairman and CEO Sean Doyle, he said the uniform iconically represents the British Airway’s brand. He further said that the outfit will carry the company into the future, depicting “the very best of modern Britain”.

“We wanted to create a uniform collection that our people are proud to wear and with the help of over 1,500 colleagues, we are confident that we have delivered this.” he added.

To ensure that the uniforms were fit for purpose, Boateng consulted thousands of BA staff and shadowed crew at the airport in the course of the designing.

Whislt celebrating the uniform as a unique BA brand, the company boasted on its website that the clothes offer a “stylish look with high quality, resilient fabrics”.

BA emphasized also that to ensure quality and consideration of the environment more than 90 percent of the materials used in the production of the garments conformed with global sustainable practices and expectations.

The coming spring we see 30,000 employees wearing the new uniforms and by the summer, all BA cabin crew with be lavishly sporting Boateng’s designs, from head to toe.

Boateng said: “Designing this uniform was a vast and painstaking undertaking and it went far beyond clothes. It was about creating an energetic shift internally.

“One of my main objectives was to create something that spoke to, and for, the airline’s colleagues. Something that inspired and empowered them.”
