Edgar Kitur who is Bolt food Kenya’s Country manager said, chickens followed by pizza, burgers, and alcohol are the most ordered food.
“Currently again it is still chicken. Kenya is a chicken loving nation but we have seen other food groups increase in popularity,” Kitur said, adding being a holiday season, people are not keen on cooking thus the best and quickest alternative is to order from the app.
In 2021 the Bolt Food Index Report showed that spicy fried chicken was the most ordered online food in the Capital, between January and November. It was followed by chips and chicken, fried chicken and chicken winglets.
“If you look at last year, like Christmas-January surprisingly were our best months. The user activity increases because you know they have more festivities and you know with all the offerings we have a crazy selection of restaurants over 2000 platforms on our platform and this allows consumers to choose would they rather cook food or rather order food from a few restaurants and we have seen that increase so far. So in the last couple of months we have seen an increase of user activity on the platform,” he said.
Kitur also said that Indian food is popular among Kenyans. “Indian food are popular because I think Kenyans have increased their threshold of experimenting other foods,”
“So, Kenyans are willing to try more different things quite often and we have seen that by the increase of different restaurants as well. For example, now we are seeing East European food on our platform which we never saw a couple of months ago,” he added.
