Edo Train Kidnap: Obaseki assures victims family of quick rescue

The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has assured families of the train passengers that were kidnapped on Saturday in Igueben, will be released soon.

The Governor’s assurance was conveyed through The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, conveyed the governor’s message on Sunday, in Benin City, to the families of the kidnapped victims.

The statement reads:

“Our Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, spoke with me this morning to share the latest information on the efforts being made by the military, police and personnel drawn from other security agencies, including the vigilante and hunters who know the bushes like their backyards to ensure the kidnapped passengers are released soon.

“The Governor has provided the needed logistics supports of the various security agencies that are combing the bushes, small settlements, forests and everywhere around the place of the incident to smoke out the kidnappers.”

Governor Obaseki has also directed that the operation to rescue the victims be coordinated by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu.

While sympathizing with families of the victims, Obaseki urged citizens to remain calm and pass any useful information that would help in the rescue operation, to his office or the security agencies.

Nigeria was thrown into shock as not less than 31 intending passengers were kidnapped when terrorists attacked Tom Ikimi Train Station at Igueben, Uromi, in Edo State, South-south Nigeria on Saturday.

Operation to rescue the victims is still ongoing as six persons, according to unverified reports, have been rescued so far and one of the kidnappers arrested.
