Ingredients

  • 10 medium russet potatoes (about 3 lb.), peeled and cut into quarters
  • 3 cloves garlic (Optional)
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Grounded black pepper (to taste)

Procedures

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

Add potatoes and garlic, lower heat to medium, and boil for 15-20mins until potatoes are tender.

When the potatoes are almost finished, heat milk and butter in a small saucepan over low heat until butter is melted.

Drain potatoes and return to the pot.

Slowly add warm milk mixture, blending it in with a potato masher or electric mixer until potatoes are smooth and creamy.

Season with salt and pepper. Stir and taste to know if there’re some adjustments to be done.

Your creamy mashed potatoes is ready to be munched.

You can decide to add sugar (to taste) and a sprinkle of some veggies if you want.

You could enjoy your mashed potatoes with a savory meat sauce.

Points to Note:

The best potatoes for this recipe is use russet potatoes. These potatoes are starchy and they easily fall apart during cooking, which makes mashing much easier and gives a smoothest.

You could also use sweet potatoes, but the texture of your mash won’t be as smooth as the russet.

You just might be wondering if your mashed potatoes can be preserved for another day. Well you can actually preserve any leftovers you have.

Mashed potatoes would do well in the fridge where/when there’s constant power supply for up to 5 days.

Scoop individual portions of mashed potatoes into a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.

Freeze them, uncovered, before placing the frozen portions into a freezer bag.

To enjoy your mashed potatoes as though it is freshly made; take out a portion and place it into a saucepan on medium – low heat and stir occasionally until they’re well heated. Add a little extra butter, sour cream or seasoning, stir evenly and enjoy.
