How to make Sadza porridge

    Sadza is a porridge found in Zimbabwe and it is described as a thickened porridge prepared from any pulverized grain.

    In 1890, maize was an imported crop to Zimbabwe, and it has now become the chief source of starch and carbohydrate and the most popular meal for the indigenous peoples of Zimbabwe. it is a traditional African staple food that is served with savoury foods. Sadza is commonly made from white maize meals.

    It is a two part recipe with sadza on one and the accompanying stew or vegetable relish on the other. But in this recipe we are only going to prepare sadza porridge.

    Ingredients

    1. 5 cups of grounded Maize
    2. 4 litres of water

    Direction

    • Boil 4 litres of water.
    • Put five cups of white maize meal in a sauce pan and add cold water to soak the meal.
    • After the white maize meal is completely soaked, add a little more water and stir the mixture with a thick stick (or a big wooden spoon).
    • Cook on a medium heat and stir. Add the boiling water slowly and keep stirring constantly. Make sure the mixture doesn’t stick to the pan.
    • While heating, the maize meal will become smooth, like a smooth porridge.
    • while adding more maize meal flour boil and stir constantly, and steaml for 5 minutes. Then serve.

    It is eaten with a variety of stews and relishes such as collard greens, beef, chicken, or pork stews, and even Mopani worms.
