How To Prepare Catfish Pepper Soup

You might be out of options for what to prepare today, here is a recipe for a savory catfish pepper soup for you.

These ingredients are perfect for a medium sized catfish. You can choose to increase or decrease depending on the number of persons you are looking to feed and the number/size of the catfish.

  • 1 medium-sized catfish
  • 2 sizeable onion
  • Fresh pepper
  • Pepper soup spices
  • Teaspoon – (fish seasoning)
  • Scent leaves (a handful)
  • Utazi leaves (very little
  • 1 seasoning cube
  • Grounded crayfish (3 teaspoon)
  • Salt to taste

It is advisable to use a small pot while making pepper soup so that all the ingredients would easily soak with the fish or meat, and it wouldn’t take lots of water to get the fish submerged.

Utazi is a slightly bitter leaf so be mindful of the quantity you put in your pepper so you don’t change the taste.

Procedures

Wash your fish thoroughly with hot water at 80 – 90 degree Celsius, as boiled water will end up peeling the skin of the fish. Ensure that you remove the slimy outer skin completely.

Get all your ingredients ready, pound/ground the fresh red pepper and half cup of crayfish together with a mortar and pestle. Also slice the utazi leaves, onions, scent leaves and set aside in bowls.

Transfer the washed catfish into a small pot and spice it with onion, fresh pepper, seasoning cube and salt to taste. Allow the fish to stem for about ten to fifteen minutes.

Now add 3 cups (drinking cup) of water, taste to know the necessary adjustments needed.

Once that is done and you have seasoned to taste, add the fish seasoning, crayfish, pepper, etc.

Make sure the ingredients are not suspended at the top.

Cook for 7 minutes then go in with all the leaves and your catfish pepper soup is ready.

You could take just the sauce with the fish or have it with boiled white rice.
