Iconic guittarist Jeff Beck passes on at age 78

Iconic British born influential guitarists in rock ‘n’ roll history Jeff Beck has died on Tuesday, at the age of 78.

His death was announced on Wednesday by his family on his official twitter account, attributing the cause of his demise on bacterial meningitis infection.

The the post reads:

“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing,” Beck’s representatives wrote Wednesday on his official Twitter account. “After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday.”

After joining the Yardbirds, Beck rose to fame in the 1960s. The British rock group was known for their their flourishing creative talent. The iconic guitarist left the group to form his solo career with his band, the Jeff Beck Group.

Beck has to his credit a rich music profile with several awards and recognition. The legend is an eight-time Grammy Award winner, who earned his first in 1985 for best rock instrumental performance for his single, “Escape.”

As a solo artist in 2009 and a member of the Yardbirds in 1992 , he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice.

Last year, the guitar virtuoso toured with actor Johnny Depp, amid Depp’s legal entanglements with his ex-wife, after the duo recorded a cover album together, titled “18.”

A short statement from the The New York Times to his legendary career, the global news media wrote on Wednesday about Beck, saying that, the legend “brought a sense of adventure to his playing,” which incorporates melody of hard rock, funky blues, jazz and even opera in his work.
