OPEC Secretary General, Muhammad Barkindo has passed on hours after being honoured by President Buhari.
Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, announced his passing on in a tweet in the early hours of wednesday.
According to Mele Kyari, Barkindo passed on at about 11pm on Tuesday.
“We lost our esteemed Dr Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at about 11pm yesterday 5th July 2022. Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly,” Kyari tweeted.
It will be recalled that President Buhari had, on Tuesday, honoured Barkindo at the State House Abuja describing him as a worthy Ambassador of the country.
Barkindo had passed on at the age of 63.
