The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a strong denial of plans to embark on a nationwide shutdown, describing the rumors as “false and misleading.”

In a press statement released today, NANS Senate President, stated, “We are not planning any shutdown. Our goal is to collaborate with stakeholders to improve education in Nigeria, not to disrupt it.”

The President condemned the spread of false information, warning that it could cause unnecessary panic and harm to students and the general public.

“We urge students and the public to disregard the false reports. We are committed to peaceful and democratic means of addressing our concerns,” he emphasized.

The denial comes after social media reports emerged suggesting NANS planned to shut down the country in protest of alleged government neglect of the education sector.

The Federal Ministry of Education has also corroborated NANS’ statement, urging students and the public to disregard the false reports.

NANS has been involved in negotiations with the government to address issues like tuition fees, infrastructure, and student welfare.

With this clarification, students and the general public can rest assured that there are no plans for a nationwide shutdown, and NANS remains committed to constructive engagement for the betterment of education in Nigeria.
