The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said it has not renewed the contact of the Super Eagles Manager, Jose Peseiro.
NFF debunked the news making the rounds that Peseiro’s contract has been extended till after next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
While refuting the rumour, NFF’s Media Director, Ademola Olajire, said though the Super Eagles handler’s contract expires this week but the Federation has not commenced the process of reviewing it.
“I am not aware that Peseiro’s contract has been renewed. Such information will be released by the NFF when it happens,” he said. The NFF recently took to the social media to gauge Nigerians’ disposition to the plan to retain the Portuguese as Super Eagles’ coach.
The NFF announced the appointment of Peseiro in May 15, 2022 after engaging him on a contract of $70, 000 monthly, as the new coach of the Eagles, replacing Austin Eguavoen, who returned to his initial duty as Technical Director in the federation.
The Super Eagles’ win over Leone Stars 3-2 in Liberia and its qualification for the 2024 AFCON may have created an opportunity for a short contract renewal.
Despite his recent victory, many, especially stakeholders are against handing the former Venezuela coach a new deal due to his not-too impressive performance with the Eagles.
There are speculations that either former Super Eagles players Emmanuel Amuneke and Finidi George will takeover from Peseiro.
Finidi George just led Enyimba of Aba to win the 2022/2023 abridged NPFL championship.
