Nigeria moves a notch higher in new FIFA world ranking

Nigeria’s Super Eagles climbs to 39th position from 40th in the new FIFA world ranking.

The ranking was publish on Thursday, 29 June, on the official website that belongs to world football governing body.

While the Super Eagles is in the sixth position ranking in Africa, but behind Morocco (1st) Senegal (2nd) Tunisia (3rd) Algeria (4th) and Egypt (5th).

Under the coaching management of Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles defeated Sierra Leone 3-2 in Group A of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers in Monrovia, Liberia, which earned them the latest ranking.

The Super Eagles will host Sao Tome and Principe in a hard rubber clash in September, having already qualified for Cote d’Ivoire 2023.

Meanwhile, World Cup champions Argentina remain number one world in the world nearly three months on from regaining top spot, thanks to friendly wins over Australia and Indonesia.

France and Brazil maintained third and fourth spots respectively in the ranking, England are fourth and Belgium are fifth.

The next FIFA world ranking will be published on 20 July, 2023.
