    Nkwobi, is a tasty Nigerian food that is from the Igbo tribe, located in the Southeastern part of Nigeria.

    This meal used to be prepared with bush meat such as squirrels, rabbits, and even antelopes in the past, but now it is prepared mostly with a cow’s leg that’s cooked in a thick, spicy sauce. Cow leg Nkwobi is the most popular type of Nkwobi. It grew from a pub favourite to a classy restaurant staple.

    Animal feet are commonly eaten in many parts of the world like Asia, South America, and parts of Europe (France), this includes chicken feet, goat trotters, cow feet, pig trotters which is prepared in their special cuisine. Different countries have their own special Cow foot dishes, for example the Caribbean Cow foot soup, Philippine Kare Kare, Zimbabwean Mangqina/Mazondo, Egyptian Fattah kawara, and Nigerian cow foot pepper soup.

    There are important health benefits in Nkwobi such that goat meat, which can be used for nkwobi, also provides a thinner protein source than beef, lamb, chicken and pork. This means that it is low in saturated fat and high in unsaturated fats, the type that helps increase the High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL), or good cholesterol that promotes healthy heart.

    Nkwobi in Nigeria is usually cooked with potash, palm oil, saturated palm oil, pepper and salt. It is traditionally served with rings of fresh cut onions and some vegetable leaves on top along side a cup of palm wine.
