Angel’s dust is quite an interesting name for this raw and edible food known as Garri, which is also called ‘Cassava Flakes’ – a popular food in Nigeria. It is one of the main sources of carbohydrates, and also rich in fibre.

In the 19th century, Garri in Nigeria came in through freed slaves, when they returned from Portugal and introduced a method for processing cassava. Today, garri is found in homes throughout the country and it’s typically affordable and rich in fibre, and contains important minerals. Garri got the name ‘Angel Dust’ because it’s the only meal that comes handy in critical hours of need. As a solution to grave hunger, it has been described by many as a ‘lifesaver’ when times are lean.

It is made from cassava where it passes through a lot of processes. Being one of Nigeria’s traditionally made meals, it is eaten almost in every part of the country. But this go-to-meal is one whose health benefits are unknown or not paid attention to by its consumers.

Garri can be served cold ,that is, mixed with chilled water and sugar you can as well add milk, groundnut, peanut or even Kuli kuli ( made from dry roasted peanuts/groundnuts) or hot, that is, mixed with hot water which is served with any tradittonally made soup of your choice

Being a cheap meal – as it is affordable by every individual, it is packed with a lot of health benefits that is not being paid attention to by its consumers. These health benefits are as follows:
