The children of Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, have been arrest by the Nigerian Police for allegedly stealing the funds donated by the general public to carter for the actor’s medical bills.
The arrest was confirmed by the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID), Alagbon, in Ikoyi, Lagos State, of Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor, son of comic actor John Okafor aka Mr Ibu and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu, his adopted daughter.
It was alleged that the duo criminally gained access to the actor’s phone and managed to steal 55 million naira ($60,700; £47,800) donated for his medical treatment, by well-wishers who were sympathetic to the actors debilitation health challenges.
The family last year said that Nollywood actor had undergone five surgical procedures and had had one of his legs amputated
According to the spokesperson of the police’s criminal investigation department, Mayegun Aminat, the total sum of N50m was recovered from them.
Aminat further stated that Daniel and Jasmine were putting together plans to travel to the UK before their arrest.
Both of them have been granted bail in the sum of $56,000 ,by a Lagos court as the matter continues for hearing in March 2024.
