Recipe for making Donkwa a Nigerian snack

    Donkwa or Tanfiri is a healthy and savory Nigerian snack made with cornmeal and groundnuts(peanuts). it is sometimes spicy and It’s one of those snacks that does not require cooking.


    This Maize-peanut balls donkwa is a street snack made from roasted, dried, and milled maize and groundnuts/peanuts. It is soft and melts in the mouth, and is often confused with Kuli kuli.

    Ingredients for donkwa/tanfiri
    1. 250 grams corn meal(made from roasted corn)
    2. 70 grams  of ground Peanut/groundnut OR groundnut powder
    3. 2 pinches of ground chili powder
    4. 1 tablespoonful of sugar
    5. 1 pinch of ground clove
    6. 2 tablespoons of peanut oil(sunflower or canola oil is also okay)
    7. 2  tablespoons of water

    How to prepare Donkwa
    Step 2 Pour the corn meal, groundnuts, sugar, ground chili powder, and ground clove into a blender and grind until all the ingredients are well combined to form a smooth fine powder.

    Step1 Transfer the fine powder into a large bowl. Then Scoop out some of the powder into a smaller bowl, gradually add drops of water and oil, mix well and mold into balls.
