The Nigerian Customs Service has arrested four trucks bearing food items intended for export purposes in Kano.

This is in the spirit of the NCS resolve at tackling smuggling and abating the export of food items out of the shores of the country at a time where prices of food items have soared very high beyond the reach and affordability of Nigerians.

Saidu Nuradeen, spokesman for the Service made the statement in Kano on Tuesday.

According to him, the vehicles were intercepted by personnel of the service which contained substantial amount of food items intended for export purposes along the Hadejia-Taura-Ringim axis in Jigawa.

Nuradeen listed the items to include 1,505 cartons of big and small-sized dried fish, 17 bags of local variety rice, and two bags of beans.

He maintained that the seizure is aimed at maintaining the relentless efforts of the service at ensuring border closure in safeguarding the economy and maintaining food security in the country.

“Smuggling undermines legitimate trade channels, poses risks to public health, and deprives the government of much-needed revenue.

“The NCS reiterates its unwavering commitment to combat smuggling activities across all entry points into the country.
