South Africa’s Deputy President, David Mabuza, has officially bowed out of government.
His departure was official made known by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday (Feb. 16) while thanking him for his “unwavering support” over the past five years, hailing his ably led engagements.
Mabuza will still stay in the post until a successor was announced by Mr. Ramaphosa. There are speculations that his successor, will likely be new ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile.
A cabinet reshuffle is expected next week once South Africa’s annual budget is announced.
David Mabuza revealed earlier this month he had submitted his resignation.
In the past, the VP’s opponents accused him of running a private group that allegedly intimidated other politicians when he headed the northeastern province of Mpumalanga.
Ramaphosa isn’t having a good time as South Africa is currently undergoing economic upheavals; inflation and near total electricity blackout which is affecting businesses across the country.
