Spotify honours Rema with 1 billion streams plaque
Nigerian Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, alias Rema, has been honoured by streaming platform Spotify for his achievement in his hit track ‘Calm Down’, featuring Selena Gomez reaching an amazing 1 billion streams on the platform
Spotify presented Rema with a commemorative plaque, recognizing his exceptional accomplishment, as the first ever African artiste to receive Spotify’s Billion Club Plaque, while also serving as a token of appreciation for his contribution to the global music landscape.
Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ has become a global anthem, resonating with audiences across diverse cultures and regions. The song’s blend of infectious beats, soulful lyrics, and Rema’s distinctive voice has captivated listeners since its release. Divine Ikubor is a Nigerian singer, rapper, songwriter, and stage performer. He is popularly known as Rema. He was born and raised in Benin city, Edo state of Nigeria.
He started his music career in churches before he was discovered by D’Prince, the CEO of Jozingworld Records and a younger brother to Don Jazzy, the CEO of Mavins Record. He was vorn on 1st May 2000. On January 7, 2023, he made it known on Twitter that he gained admission into the University of Lagos, Nigeria. This is to fulfil his mother’s wish that he should get a degree.Although Rema has lost his dad and his elder brother, he ensures he takes good care of his mother Mrs Ikubor while she’s still alive.
