Super Eagles 100th AFCON Match, A Date With History.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, will be playing their 100th game in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Guinea-Bissau, on Monday the 22nd of January, 2024. Having won their last game against host nations, Ivory Coast, the Eagles would be needing a win or at least a draw, to advance into the knockout stages.

This, being their 20th appearance since its first participation in 1963, the Eagles are presented with the opportunity of scoring its 140th goal today, in the last group game against Guinea-Bissau.

The last match against the Ivoriens, which saw Troost-Ekong netting the penalty kick after a foul was committed against Victor Osimhen, saw the Eagles clinching the winner, and setting the tone for a place in the knockout stages. With these fact, Victor Osimhen is expected to add to his single AFCON goal today,and to score Nigeria’s 140th goal in emulation of Victor Ikpeba, who netted Nigeria’s 70th goal in Nigeria’s 4-2 defeat of Tunisia in Lagos, on 23rd January 2000.

The Super Eagles who are considered to be bearing one of he most intimidating squad in the tournament, has been predicted to accomplish much as the tournament progresses.
