Super Eagles gears up for Cameroun 2022 AFCON as training commences in Abuja

ABUJA, Nigeria (TVAFRINET) – As training commenced yesterday ahead of the Cameroun 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, more players have started showing up at the Super Eagles camp.

The first stage of the training took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja with coach Austin Eguavoen participating.

Presently, out of the 28 invited players, eleven are already in camp, as others are being expected in the coming days.

The Cameroun 2022 AFCON will start on Sunday as the host nation, Indomitable Lions of Cameroun will slug it out with Burkina Faso.

Algeria as the reigning champions, will defend their trophy against Sierra Leone.

On Tuesday, January 11, the Super Eagles and Pharaohs of Egypt will begin their first leg campaign in Garoau. The Cameroun 2022 AFCON is expected to run from January 9 to February 6, 2022 – with matches to be held in different cities.

According to an official with the Super Eagles team, more players came in yesterday but was late for them to participate in the training.

The players in camp are Moses Simon (FC Nantes, France), Francis Uzoho (AC Omonia, Cyprus), Henry Onyekuru (Olympiacos, Greece), Peter Olayinka (Slavia Praha, Czech Republic), and Chidozie Awaziem (Alayanspor, Turkey).

Others are Chidera Ejuke (CSKA Moscow, Russia), Daniel Akpeyi (Kaizer Chiefs, South Africa), Sadiq Umar (UD Almeria, Spain), Olisa Ndah (Orlando Pirates, South Africa), John Noble (Enyimba FC), and Taiwo Awoniyi (Union Berlin, Germany).

Super Eagles media Officer, Babafemi Raji, stated that COVID-19 protocols was be fully observed in yesterday’s training, which was open to journalists.

The last time Super Eagles trained at the Abuja stadium was in preparation for 2015 AFCON qualifier against Egypt.
