Suspended Nigerian Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari arraign in court for drug trafficking

Abba Kyari, the suspended Deputy Commission of Police who was involved in the Hush Poppy advance fee fraud imbroglio was arraigned in court today with other accused persons, for charges of drug trafficking.

They were arraigned in court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

In the charge marked FHC/ABJ/57/2022, the other defendants include Sunday J Ubia, Bawa James, Simon Agirigba and John Nuhu. The three defendants charged alongside Kyari are members of the police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

The two alleged drug traffickers who were arrested at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu were part of those charged also. They are Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.

In the charge filed by Joseph Sunday, NDLEA director of prosecution and legal services, before the federal high court, the agency accused Kyari and four other police officers of conspiracy, obstruction and dealing in cocaine worth 17.55 kilograms.

Before the judge, they pleaded not guilty to the charges after it was read.

However, the sixth and seventh defendants entered a “guilty” plea and begged the court for mercy.

“My lord, I’m guilty; have mercy,” the seventh defendant said.
