Terrorists kill Zamfara community guard commander, kidnap 14 road construction workers

Aminu Sarkin-Baura, who is a senior commander of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard (CPG) alongside another unnamed official of the outfit were gunned down in the process of warding off an attack from terrorists on Tsafe town on Monday night.

About 14 road construction workers were also kidnapped in Area 2 in the town which is the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area as kidnappers struck, residents narrated.

Mr Sarkin-Baura and his team had joined soldiers in responding to a distress call on the attack residents confirmed.

The terrorists had countered the force of the Army by burning down two of their operational vehicles and that of the security guards.

Upon entering into the town, the terrorists had gone straight to the residence of the construction workers working on Funtua- gusau road and abducted about 14 of them.

According to the Governor of the state, Governor Dauda Lawal, in a Facebook post, felicitated with the families of the decease persons and all other casualties of the incident.

“The attempt by the terrorists to invade Tsafe was resisted by our joint security task force.

“I condole with the family of those who lost their lives in the attack. Especially the family of the late commander Aminu Sarkin Baura Tsafe, who lost his life in his resolve to protect his people. May his soul rest in peace.

“My administration remains committed to doing all the needful to find a lasting solution to the problem, with the grace of God,” the governor wrote in the condolence greeting.
