Things Muslims must avoid to preserve their fasting during Ramadan

    Based on Islamic injunction, muslims must avoid things that could render their fasting invalid during Ramadan.

    The month of Ramadan is a holy month when Muslims are expected to abstain from food and water from dawn till dusk, for a period, spanning full lunar month. Eating, drinking, and sexual activities must be avoided between dawn (fajr), and sunset (maghrib). Fasting is considered an act of deeply personal worship in which Muslims seek a raised level of closeness to God

    During this period, they are to keep up with certain rules to preserve their fasting in accordance to the teachings and preachings of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W).

    Muslims are expected to avoid unclean lifestyle and stay away from food, water, alcohol and sexual activities , as well as vices, and to engaged more in charity and promote good virtues while setting moral examples to others.

    Keeping the fasting intact, for a Muslims is important, but there are cases of unintentional breaking of the fasting, and other incidences that affects tits validity most Muslims are not aware of.

    A sizable population of Muslims are not aware of the dos and don’ts when fasting, especially during Ramadan. Most take a lot for granted not knowing that through their actions and recklessness they have broken the validity of their fasting. In another circumstances, the overtly sensitive Muslims often felt bad when they unintentionally , for instance put things in their mouth, thinking they have broken their fast. Broken of fasting is an international process of of action, which without, a fasting can not be said to have been broken.

    However, there are some Hadiths ( witnesses of books of the teachings of the Holy Prophet) that gave evidences regarding instance of when one should considered a fasting broken. In this case there are some things one should not engage in when they are fasting during Ramadan.

    It is said that once water enters the throat and nose of the person that is fasting during shower or swimming, it is broken. Because water that finds its way to the throat will get to the abdomen.

    It is not advisable for any Muslim fasting during ramadan to brush their teeth. The sweetness of the toothpaste while brushing breaks the fasting.

    It is also advised that Muslim should desist from burning perfumed candles and incense during fasting, as the heavy smell could break the fast.

    Indulging in explicit acts during fasting is not permissible. Hugging , kissing and sexual advances are prohibited during fasting. Any of such act will break a person’s fast.

    Chewing gum and smoking are prohibited for a Muslim during fasting. Whoever does has broking his fast.

    Women are advised to stay away from using lipsticks , especially flavoured ones with sugary taste. Any of such lipsticks used breaks a fast when the taste finds its way into the person’s mouth.
