UNESCO ask for more funds and better infrastructure for education

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), on Monday, request for the increase of funds and improvement of infrastructure in the education sector.

The organisation also called on decision makers and the political class and leaders of establishments to support the education system to ensure students would be able to maximize learning and effectively engaged to tackle the menace of out-of-school children across Africa.

Phillipe Delanghe, Officer in charge, UNESCO Regional Office, Abuja, said this while speaking at the commemoration of the Day of the African Child, a special event aimed to raise awareness for the continuous need to improve learning provided to African children.

Delanghe, who was represented by Regina Prisco, Senior Education Specialist at UNESCO, said: “Global and national evidence points to the fact that education has the power to transform the lives of children and young people and help them improve their agency, their human capital, realize their potentials as productive members of the society.

“In the words of Nelson Mandela Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. The digital space better provides a platform to facilitate this. Investing in infrastructures and tools to improve the quality of education of the African child is an investment in the right direction.”

The simplified version of the child rights Act was launched at the event, to boost the education sector.
