Veteran Actor Chief Lari Williams dies at 81

Chief Lari Williams, a veteran actor has died on February 27th, 2022, at the age of 81 .

The actor who hails from Ikom in cross river state, was said to have kicked the bucket after a prolonged illness.

He was a man of value and it was evident in how he lived while on earth.

In his early days, Chief Lari Williams studied Journalism at the London school of Journalism and due to his love for his arts, thereafter, went ahead to study English at Morley College and then drama at the Mountview Theatre School and Stratford E15 Acting School, England to become a professional actor.

Chief Lari Williams came back to Nigeria in 1977 for the FESTAC’77 and thereafter decided to stay back in Nigeria, his home base.

In his lifetime, Chief williams was a playwright,a poet and a well grounded actor who was known for his dexterity both in live theater acts and on screen.

This earned him a reputable National honours award in 2008; Member of the Order of the Federal Republic.

In 1983, he was the vice presidential candidate for the Movement of the people political party and a running mate for Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Due to his vastness and experience, Chief William became the first ever president for the Actor’s guild of Nigeria and his career spanned for over 5 decades.

Chief Williams was known for his amazing roles in well known soap operas such as Village Headmaster, Ripples, and Mirror in The Sun.

Some of Williams’ published works include plays like Black Current, Storm Baby, Kolanut Junction and Heartlines.

He was indeed such a legend that will be greatly missed by the industry.
