Bunny Chow is a tasty delicacy that consists of a hulled-out white bread that’s filled with a selection of different curries and beans and often served with grated carrot, chili, and onion salad.

This tasty Durban delicacy consists of a rich Indian curry served in a hollowed out loaf of bread. it was found when Immigrant Indian plantation workers in Durban were often banned from cafes during South Africa’s colonialism, the community created bunny chow in the late 1940s as a way for the workers to carry their meals into the fields with them. It’s known that the name originates from the city’s banyan trees, under which the vendors used to sit to sell their portable bread-loaf curries in the shade.

It is made up of a quarter half or a full loaf of white bread with a great crust. Real bread as it should be, when cut, the heel of the bread functions as a base to stand upright.

Commonly used ingredients to prepare the curry include meat, chickpeas, potatoes and various different spices.

Bunny chow can be eaten with a salad which often includes grated carrot, chili, onion, or a pickle, it can be found in different communities along with their varieties.
